What’s a Balloon Twister!

September 20, 2022 by Retired Webbs Leave a Comment

Can you travel with your hobby?

A balloon twister can.

One evening in December, we met a balloon twister. She was twisting balloons, making dogs, hats, and swords; the list of things she was making could go on and on.

We asked how she became a twister, and she told us about TheFlordiaSuperJam.com in Orlando, Florida.

We never heard of it and never really thought about it.

That night we looked them up on the internet because we thought it would be fun to twist a balloon and surprise the grandkids.

After searching online, we found and ordered a balloon starter kit, watched the videos, and filled our living room with balloons.

We had so much fun laughing and twisting; our hands and arms were so tired the next day. Although we were tired and sore, it was so much fun we did it again.

It was a blast; having no expectations about what we were doing and making, we thought, let’s register for TheFlordiaJam.com in Orlando, Florida, and see what it’s all about.

Thinking it would be fun, we booked a hotel room, got a ticket to the jam, and drove for 8 hours; I have to tell you, it was terrific.

Twisting and popping balloons were a few of the many things we learned.

With many friendly people in one place, some retired and some not, who were having fun, entertaining, and putting a smile on someone’s face. An experience we will not forget any time soon.

How would you get into Balloon Twisting?

We have to tell you; anyone can become a balloon twister. It takes a lot of balloons, a lot of patience, and practice, practice, practice.

Once you have some knowledge, you could check out a national jam to further your skills.  The sky is the limit in balloon twisting.

After mastering the art of the twist, you could learn to expand your craft, a balloon arch or not; keep dreaming.

Google balloon twisters in your area and see if they have a local group you could join.

Sometimes balloon twisters get together monthly and share ideas and twist balloons.

Check where you live to see if a balloon jam is close to you, or call another balloon twister.

Balloons are everywhere

Our grandchildren enjoy sitting around the table making balloon animals every time we visit them or see them is an understatement.

I have never seen a child not like a balloon animal to play with, feel and see how you turn and twist them.

What do you need to know?

Do balloons come in different sizes? Yes, they do.

Balloon animals might take several different sizes of balloons.

We learned by watching Youtube.

We watched, stopped, tried, and started the video again. We will tell you. It takes practice.

We watched – Holly the Twister Sister on Youtube.

What do you do with such a skill?

Once you learn to be a twister, it’s a great way to entertain your family and friends. Maybe twist at your local fair, church, or senior citizens center.

The sky is the limit with a balloon. Take your time; initially, we thought the balloon would not twist. Once we overcame the fear of popping it, and yes, balloons do pop, we were ready to start turning and twisting each balloon.

Happy Twisting
