7 Places to Volunteer

  1. Animal Shelter – If you enjoy animals, this would be a great place to volunteer.
  2. Hospice Company – An excellent way to give back to your community
  3. Senior Center – A great place to socialize and volunteer at the same time
  4. Hospital – Usually has a group of volunteers that assist in different areas of the hospital
  5. Churches -Might have a ministry to help homelessness, maybe a clothes or food pantry
  6. Food Pantries- Sorting and distributing food
  7. Habitat for Humanity – If you have carpenter skills, this might be a great place to volunteer.

A good volunteer is willing

  • Assists when needed
  • Is dependable and follows thru
  • Is a team player and likes to help others
  • Listens to others and offers assistance when needed
  • Follows directions 

Examples of volunteer opportunities

  • You work behind the scene, perhaps at a nonprofit thrift store, organizing and sorting donations they receive.
  • You work face-to-face with people at a nonprofit thrift store, assisting with questions about the merchandise.
  •  Another example could be in an office setting, calling people on the phone asking for donations for the thrift store.

A  place to start is https://www.volunteermatch.org/. Put in your city and what type of volunteer opportunity you seek.

Many nonprofit organizations have a handful of staff and depend on volunteers to help. Look around your community; do you see a place you would like to volunteer?

When volunteering, you have to know when you want to volunteer and the organizations you would like to volunteer for. Determine what days and times you are available and give volunteering a try. 

You will be surprised at the rewards you receive from volunteering. It may be satisfaction, self-confidence, physical exercise, mental well being giving back to your community.

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, talk, and give back. Pick up the phone and start calling.

These are a few suggestions check with your local nonprofits to see where they need volunteers and try it.
